Just when you thought awards season was over, three more shows come along in one weekend: The ACMAs, the Kid’s Choice Awards… and of course, the almighty Razzie Awards. With all of the pomp and circumstance surrounding most show biz awards ceremonies, it’s nice to have something to remind us that at times, show biz is RIDICULOUS and that not everything that comes out of Hollywood is all rainbows and kittens and wonderfulness. And lucky us, the results of the 32nd Annual Golden Raspberry Awards are in!
At the end of February, Adam Sandler made Razzie Awards history when he and his movies were nominated for a whopping 11 awards. This is especially impressive when you consider that there are only 10 Razzie Award categories. You know what that means, right? Yep: He was nominated not once, but TWICE in one category. For the curious, that category was Worst Actor, and he took a nod for both Jack & Jill and Just Go With It. For the curious, the previous record holder was Eddie Murphy in 2007.
And hey, guess what? Adam just made Razzie history—again! On Sunday night, Jack & Jill became the first film in the Razzies’ 32-year history to win every. Single. Award. You heard me: The monstrosity that was Jack & Jill won all ten Razzie awards for 2011 in a single evening. This feat also included Adam winning the awards for both Worst Actor AND Worst Actress, which is perhaps the strongest argument for the actor never attempting to do drag again. Ever. Note, by the way, that the previous record holder with eight wins was the 2007 Lindsay Lohan flop I Know Who Killed Me—in which LiLo played twins. Coincidence? Hmmm…

Interestingly, there was one category that actually ended up being a pretty tight race: That of Worst Screen Ensemble. This particular category wasn’t just voted upon by the 657 Voting Members of the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation; this year, voting was opened up to the general public for the very first time. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the site at which balloting was conducted, Jack & Jill just barely beat out the cast of Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part I.
Here’s the complete list of winners (for the list of nominees, click here):

Well, congratulations (?) to the cast and crew of Jack & Jill for making the absolute worst movie of 2011. Maybe now that Adam Sandler has gotten this out of his system, he can start making movies like Punch Drunk Love again? We can always hope!
